Becoming a Teacher

The journey of becoming a certified GYROTONIC® or GYROKINESIS® instructor takes around a year. Center Gyrotonic is equipped to provide all of the support you need to becoming a successful instructor.

Below is the process of becoming a Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis instructor. Both programs follow similar paths. Each step must be completed in sequence to become a certified Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis trainer. With the exception of the certification course, Center Gyrotonic offer all courses, instruction and materials.

Take some classes

If you haren’t familiar with Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis, you are required to take at least 10 classes before embarking on your teacher training journey. The more experience you have with the system, the more you will be able to focus on deepening your understanding of the materials in teacher training.

Pre-training course

The pre-training is a 6 day course which provides you with an understanding of the level 1 exercises. It also serves to prepare you physically for the level 1 foundation course. This foundation course must be taken within 3 months after completing the pre-training course. Pre-training courses are only offered by certified pre-trainers.

Foundation Course

The foundation course is a 12 day (for the Gyrotonic) or 9 day (for the Gyrokinesis) course that provides you with the specific skills and techniques to teach the level 1 exercises to clients. During the course the Master Trainer introduces the principles, and teaching techniques in the level 1 syllabus.

Apprenticeship

After completing the foundation course, you enter the apprenticeship program lasting anywhere from 6 to 12 months. During the apprenticeship you are required to review and practice the foundation course material. This entails completing a number of teaching hours (60 for Gyrotonic, 30 for Gyrokinesis), as well a set amount of supervised apprenticeship course hours in the form an apprenticeship course or retaking the foundation course. Apprenticeship course are 6 days long for Gyrotonic, and 3 days long for Gyrokinesis.

Certification Course

The certification course is an education course and it is also a practical assessment of students’ teaching skills and their understanding of the level 1 curriculum. To successfully complete this course, apprentices must physically execute and demonstrate a proficient understanding of the exercises and principles in the level 1 Foundation Course syllabus. Additionally, apprentices must apply the appropriate verbal cues and physical guidance to a moving person according to the level 1 Foundation Course manual

Continuing education

To maintain your certification to teach, trainers are required to take continuing education courses. A full list of these course can be found on the Gyrotonic website.
