GYROTONIC®
The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, created by Juliu Horvath, is a movement system based in circular and spherical awareness of the body. More specifically the joints themselves. With specially designed equipment to assist the body in understanding these concepts Gyrotonic exercises help to create a balance between the muscles, bones, organs and nerves which helps to relieve stagnation and stresses that can build up in our bodies.

A powerful tool in cleansing and repairing the body Gyrotonic methodology is also a very complete workout. It can satisfy any athlete and is an excellent form of cross-training for any other discipline.
GYROKINESIS®
GYROKINESIS® exercises were created before Gyrotonic exercises. Using all the same principles Gyrokinesis is free of equipment in most cases taught in a group class environment. Class starts on a stool where you warm up your spine. You progress onto the floor where you address the hips, back and abs. By the end of class you have completed roughly 100 different movements that leave your body feeling like it just had a full body massage. In the end you may be relaxed but for the duration of class is an intense workout that will make you sweat. You never hold a position for long but work at creating a fluid connection between the postures creating a dance that is invigorating and toning.

Whether you are partaking in Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis exercises, you will always find your workouts to be unique and individual day to day and designed to your specific needs.

Should you start with Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis methodology?

If you have an injury of any kind or know you need special attention it is always best to start with privates. This will ensure that you are getting all the proper attention to your specific needs. Privates are usually done on the equipment which is a great tool in taking any strain or stress off of any compromised area in your body. Once you can learn how to apply the basic principles and feel comfortable you can try taking a group class on the equipment or the Gyrokinesis class.

If you feel you are in excellent condition and are coming tot his system more for an athletic purpose, try them both before you settle on one. Some people like one aspect of the system over the other. A lot of people enjoy both and do them simultaneously. Gyrotonic movements can sort of satisfy a more traditional workout using weights and giving you a "gym-like" atmosphere, where as Gyrokinesis exercises can satisfy a more yogic-type workout.
